Jackie was the class teacher for Hope Academy’s outgoing grade 8 class, who just sat for their national exams. She was excited to see the exam performance of many students whom she has seen transform throughout their year together. With Jackie advising them and sharing tips for greater performance, many students were able to get good grades in their subjects.
One of the most exciting school projects she has done, especially with kids ranging from ages 8-10, is teaching the kids about autobiography. She asks each of the students to do their own work and use their one creativity to write about what they observe. One of their essays asked students to write about their teachers. The students had some very interesting descriptions to give that left her full of laughter as she read the simple and truthful perspective of how students perceive their teachers.
Another exciting thing Jackie is involved in is teaching her grade 8 class, who are always full of many exciting questions. She is often bombarded with many questions from learners which makes her do in-depth research herself. This provides a fertile ground for learning, both for her and the students.
Jackie also planned a series of science experiments where she could teach the children about the various uses of gases like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and argon. This was quite interesting for both her and the students as they got to practically conduct experiments rather than just discuss them theoretically. This was especially exciting for the kids as they felt they were drawing closer to high school by completing lessons those students would conduct in the science lab as well. It was such as exciting opportunity for her and the kids!
Working with the lower grades excites Jackie as well. Because the kids love number work more than anything, a teacher is required to implement a variety of teaching methods to make the class exciting and create a love for the subject. Many of Jackie’s ideas have been a key to a thriving mathematics club. This has become a more popular subject thanks to the zeal and passion exhibited by teachers like Jackie who constantly aim to develop kids holistically.
