Hope Church Kibera: A Story of Faith and Growth
The journey of Hope Church Kibera began amidst a global challenge. Our founding pastor, Dr. David Janney, President of World Hope International, inspired the leadership of Hope Church Lavington to step out in faith and plant new churches. This vision for a new church was conceived around 2018-2019. However, initial plans were paused due to the widespread uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A New Opportunity Emerges
As the pandemic subsided and the world slowly returned to normalcy, the desire to plant churches re-emerged. God opened the door for us to plant not one, but two new congregations. We first launched Hope Church Matasia, and shortly after, our youngest church plant, Hope Church Kibera, was born.
God Prepares the Way
God clearly aligned everything for Hope Church Kibera. He first provided Pastor George and his wife, who initially hesitated but later wholeheartedly said “yes” after divine confirmation. Soon, Pastor Fred and his wife, Felistas, joined the team. They began the vital groundwork, assembling a launch team that met for fellowship and prayer on Saturdays. This dedicated team worked for about a year and a half, preparing for the official launch.
The Long-Awaited Launch
After months of prayer, evangelism, fellowship, and training, Hope Church Kibera was ready to launch with approximately 20 members. The official launch service, presided over by Dr. David Janney, took place on June 22, 2025.
Today, the church flourishes with an average attendance of about 60 adults and 180 children on Sundays. They hold three services: adult and children’s services run concurrently on Sundays from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Additionally, an AWANA program on Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM attracts an average of 350 children. Hope Church Kibera meets in the main hall of the New Hope Initiative center in Kibera.
God’s Work Continues
“I will build my church,” says the Lord, and we see His promise fulfilled. God is actively at work in Kibera: people are being saved, baptized, discipled, joining life groups, and serving Him. This incredible growth and transformation is our greatest joy. God’s work continues. Philippians 1:6 He who began a good work will bring it to completion.
