Just last weekend, World Hope board member Rev. Mac Battle, along with a team from his church, Zion Church, visited Detroit for an evangelism trip. While there, we tried something new. Rather than hosting an outreach on the Hope Center property, we ventured out to a neighborhood park. At first, we were received with quite a bit of skepticism. Honestly, people wondered who we were and what we were doing there. However, after mowing the field near some apartments, cleaning up the area, and firing up the grills with hot dogs, people began to emerge. They came slowly at first from the neighborhood and the apartments, and even some men who were living in a van. We played music and shared food, as well as some other resources, but mostly, we just shared love and the love of Christ. Each person that attended was invited to church the next day at the K-Love Hope Center. If they returned for church, they were given a small gift, as well as entered for a chance to win some free groceries. Rev. Mac preached an incredible message and was able to lead some men to Christ. At the end of the service, when the free groceries were awarded, the woman who won was so overcome with joy that she shouted out when she won. She is a woman from the area than many people knew, and the groceries will be a huge blessing!
